Treatment Options
Learn how to relieve pain, reduce the risk of curve progression, and improve function with research backed, non-surgical treatment.
The Schroth Method is the most well researched and effective non-surgical treatment for scoliosis. We will assess your spine and prescribe highly individualized treatment including exercises to assist with postural correction and spinal stabilization in order to increase participation in activities of daily living.
Treatment may include:
Scoliosis Specific Exercise
Schroth Method
Postural Correction
Soft Tissue Mobilization
Taping
Dry needling
Cupping
Curve Stabilization
Specific strengthening exercises, coupled with postural control and an emphasis on muscular balance and symmetry assist in increasing the stability of the spine. You will learn techniques uniquely tailored to your curve and individual goals for therapy.
Postural Alignment
Postural alignment is evaluated closely in every Schroth exercise. During therapy, mirrors are used to increase postural awareness and provide instruction on positions which are beneficial for the spine and positions to be avoided.
Improved Participation in Activities of Daily Living
Your therapist will teach you about your spine and help you do what is important to you. You will collaborate to create a plan of care which aligns with your personal goals.
Is Schroth right for you?
The Schroth method is a conservative treatment approach to managing scoliosis across the lifespan. Highly trained therapists will guide you through cognitive, sensory motor, and kinesthetic training to slow or halt curve progression and improve spine health.
The Schroth method is unique in that it is a three dimensional approach to treatment. This is critical as the scoliotic spine curves in multiple planes. Your therapist will teach you how to understand the nature of your unique curve so that you know how to move in ways which are most beneficial for your spine.
The Schroth method can be applied at all stages of scoliosis, including post-surgically. It is particularly beneficial at times when the body itself is undergoing change as these changes will directly impact the spine. For example, during the growth period of adolescence, during pregnancy, and during the normal aging process of middle to late adulthood.
